In 1981 the Weather Underground robbed a Brinks truck in Nanuet, NY. The ragtag cadre of revolutionaries included Dave Glbert, who I knew as Lou Wasserman, his alias. Working with him on numerous occassions, I found him always kind and thoughtful. As it turned out he was also deeply deluded. Americans had moved away from the politics of the 60s and early 70s. So far away that Ronald Regan was president. It seemed utterly demented and of course tragically deadly. Gilbert's dream of an anti-capitalist, anti-colonialist, anti-racist revolution became his own worst nightmare. Gilbert and his lover, Kathy Boudin figure in this series of paintings.
